How much will my kitchen cost?

The actual cost of your kitchen is of course up to you. What we recommend is that you match the value of your kitchen to the value of your property. Whenever doing any building work it is important that you will get a good return for any money invested and also that it is in keeping with the rest of the property. A poorly matched job can reduce the attractiveness of your property to the market and therefore its value. By contrast putting an expensive kitchen into a modest property will not give you a good return. A general rule of thumb used throughout the industry is 10% of your building cost. Also see the guide below.

Budget Guide (including all trades, appliances and lighting)

House Value

Kitchen Value

Percentage of Home

$250,000 – $450,000

$15,000 – $30,000

$20,000 – $48,000

If you are renovating your whole house then a rule of thumb is to utilize approximately 10% of the total amount on your kitchen.

How can two kitchens that are the same size cost such different prices?
There are 3 main contributors to the cost of a kitchen.
1 - Style
2 - Materials
3 - Specification

So two kitchens with the same style can look the same but be made completely differently.   For example the bench top could be white with a thick chunky profile. From a photograph you will not distinguish the material. The price can range from a laminate worth $1100 right up to premium grade granite for $8000 and they would be exactly the same size and layout.

What’s included in the pricing?
Our kitchens usually include all cabinetry, bench tops, accessories, delivery and installation. They do NOT include appliances, plumbing, electrical work, building work and consents. This will be detailed on your proposal.

How long will it take?
A total kitchen project can be a complex operation but it all depends on the individual site. The design phase and getting consents approved can take from one to six months. Once all systems are go then the manufacture and installation stage is around 6 – 8 weeks. Templated benches and splashbacks can add a further 2 -6 weeks depending on the products chosen. Our approach is to identify your desired installation date and work back from that point.

How will the project be managed?
We offer different options depending on your requirements. Most of our customers manage their own projects with our support and coaching. We utilise tools such as timeline planners and computerised reminders and we are able to refer good tradespeople. In some cases it makes economic sense to have one of our people supply full project management. Your sales designer will discuss what option is best for you.

How do I choose the best company for me to work with?
For most people, getting a new kitchen made will be one of the most significant and time consuming purchases they make for their home, so firstly its important that your relationship with the company is solid; you feel listened to and understood, you are educated during the process so you can make sound decisions, you receive a no-nonsense guarantee, you are given the opportunity to inspect both the kitchen during manufacture and the workshop itself, you are freely given testimonials and case studies of other clients’ experiences, you’re dealing with a company that can do the whole job right through to installation, so that there’s no buck-passing, and who will remember you and your kitchen after the job is done.

At what point do I have to pay?
At Fineline we have created a unique way to be able to offer our customers the best service with no risk. Instead of the usual (designer site visit and an initial design created, leading to you being asked to make a deposit toward a kitchen order) we have introduced an interim step we call aligning. Our designer will firstly sit with you in our showroom and display latest trends and what is available. Then they will visit your site and from that sketch a couple of quick concepts and give you a price range that a suitable kitchen would fall in. If you like the sound of that then we will ask for a refundable good will bond and the designer will then go ahead and do a full detailed custom design. At the end of the process you get to choose whether to move forward to an order, purchase the design by itself or if for any reason you are not happy, get a full refund. This enables a much more detailed and customised process because we’ve eliminated spending time on unproductive areas.

What happens next?
Once your designer has completed a site visit and initial measure, they will go away and draft some concepts drawings. The drawings are freehand which allow the designer unlimited freedom and imagination. You will be presented these concepts along with a ballpark proposal, and from there, you decide whether you’d like to move forward with a full design or not.
